While many artists are keeping their fans upbeat with new music releases during coronavirus lockdowns (thank you Carly Rae Jepsen), Drake was recently caught up in some drama because of a song that wasn’t meant to come out. In an unreleased track played in an Instagram Live, the Canadian rapper calls Kylie Jenner a ‘side piece.’
Kylie Jenner and Drake were rumoured to be romantically involved late last year, with multiple outlets reporting that the pair were “hanging out” though not necessarily dating. The lyrics of the song seem to reference this time, with Drake rapping, “Real shit, Kylie Jenner, that’s a side piece / Yeah, I got 20 motherf**kin’ Kylies.”
He also name drops a few other women, including Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid. “Yeah, I got 20 damn Kendalls / Young slim baddies and they in Vogue / Yeah, I got 20 f**kin’ Gigis.”
Very quickly, Drake jumped on Instagram to clarify the somewhat derogatory lyrics. “A song that mark ran last night on night owl sound live set shouldn’t have been played.”
The classic white text post continued, “It’s a song that leaked 3 years ago and got scrapped shortly after. He was just going too deep in the drake/future catalogue. Last thing I’d want to do is wake up having any friends of mine feeling disrespected so I just had to say that to start the day.”
According to a source, Kylie was pretty chill about the whole thing. A source told E! News that the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star had “no hard feelings about it” and “knew it was old.” She was apparently appreciative that Drake was quick to clarify on his Instagram, and that she “and Drake are still very good friends and she just laughed it off.”
Kylie is now back together with Travis Scott. While they’d previously broken up and were just focused on co-parenting their daughter Stormi, the couple is apparently back and better than ever.
They’re one of the few celeb couples who’ve reunited in quarantine. Sadly Timothée Chalamet and Lily-Rose Depp have called it quits and Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart might be next.
