Of the many high profile mums-to-be who are expecting at the moment, Gigi Hadid is one who has so far kept her growing family out of the spotlight. The 25-year-old model, who is expecting her first child with boyfriend and singer Zayn Malik, has just given fans a first peek at her baby bump. Taking to an Instagram story, Hadid showed off both a new art book she’s been working on in quarantine and, for a brief moment, her bump.
Explaining her decision to keep it quiet, Hadid said: “Obviously I think a lot of people are confused why I’m not sharing more but, I’m pregnant through a pandemic, my pregnancy is not the most important thing going on in the world.”
Hadid also noted that as well as the pandemic, the ongoing Black Lives Matter movement should also be taking precedence on social media. “That’s a reason that I felt that it’s not really something that I need to share apart from with my family and friends. Obviously a lot of people have lost lives due to coronavirus that was in the beginning of quarantine and still happening. And then we moved obviously into the reemergence of the BLM [Black Lives Matter] movement, and I thought that our presence on social media should be used for that.”
That said, while she’s not sharing publicly, Hadid is definitely documenting the growth of her bump for herself. “I’m trying to document it well because I’ve heard a lot of people say obviously make sure you don’t miss it,” she said. “And I will be sharing stuff like that in the future. I just am not rushed to do it, and I feel like right now I just want to experience it, and I write in my journal a lot, and I just don’t want to worry about waking up every day during my pregnancy and worry about having to look cute or post something.”
After the little interlude, Hadid spent the rest of the Instagram Live taking fans through her quarantine project, Gigi Journal Part II. The artbook is a hefty one, judging from the video and spotlights Black artists in particular to recognise the importance of the current Black Lives Matter movement.
