In February 2016, Ariana Grande fired her manager Scooter Braun. It’s easy to forget that it ever happened since they’re back to being on the same team… but what caused the fallout?
Well, Scooter is opening up about it.
Talking to Variety, Scooter puts most of the blame on a “shitty boyfriend” of Ariana’s at the time.
When Ariana fired Scotter, he admitted that there was a lot he could have done to hit back at her.
“With Ariana, I could have said a lot of stuff, and in fact my team wanted me to, because they were pissed,” he explained. “But I said, ‘We’re not gonna say a word, and this is gonna come back around.’ They were like, ‘Never take her back!’ but I just said, ‘Let’s stay quiet and let our truth be our actions.’”
He continued, “And when sh*tty boyfriends leave, she starts to see the light on some stuff, and one day I got a phone call. She said, ‘Can I see you tomorrow?’ and I said, ‘No, I’m busy’ — I actually couldn’t, so I said, ‘I could see you Thursday’ or whatever and I went over there and we had a very honest conversation.” And the rest is history!
Ariana and Big Sean broke up in April 2015, and she didn’t start dating Mac Miller until August 2016. In between then, she was dating back up dancer Ricky Alvarez, so it’s unknown which “shitty boyfriend” Scooter is referring to.
However, he can now admit that it brought them closer than ever.
“It made me and her really tight, because now when we get into those fights and she’s coming at me, I just go, ‘Woah, do you want to go back to where we were?’ and then it kinda calms down.”
Not to mention what it did for them when they were both going through the Manchester attack in May 2017.
“That relationship we had, from being fired to getting back together, really gave us the strength for what he never imagined would come that following year.”
