Troian Bellisario and Lily Collins have both suffered from an eating disorder, and have previously opened up about it to their fans.
Now, they have both proceeded to make movies about their struggles, in the hope to open up the conversation and help anyone else with the same issues.
Recently, Lily’s movie “To The Bone” available on Netflix, has caused a bit of controversy with some people believing it glorifies anorexia and eating disorders, even calling it ‘instructional’.
Troian recently had a Tumblr Post-It Forward Q&A about her own movie, “Feed” and revealed that she was triggered by Lily’s movie, having experienced the same thing in her past.
“I watched To The Bone and was blown away by Lily Collins’ work, and Marti Noxon’s direction and writing. I also don’t think you can watch something for 2 hours that you have had such a close relationship with and intense past with and not be triggered,” she said.
However she believes both her and Lily’s movies bring much needed awareness to mental illness and eating disorders.
“I think [the films] are doing a service because they are creating a space for people to talk about their struggles,” she says.
“A space to share how they feel, how they pulled themselves out of a dark space, how they finally found their way to treatment, and also what helps when they feel triggered or feel like engaging with it again.”
