Shawn Mendes was the victim of a fake tweet that sent the fandom into a total spin last night.
According to the Photoshopped tweet, Shawn wrote, “Guys my sexuality shouldn’t be anyone’s business. Yes, i’m gay and i’m proud.”
It obviously looks pretty real, so initially fans started to show support for Shawn, trending the #ShawnComingOut hashtag.
It doesn’t’ matter what Shawn, or anybody’s sexual orientation is. It is his music that he wants people to notice, and as much as people want to know about celebrities’ personal lives, making a joke out of this is uncool.
Back in 2016, Shawn addressed the same issue in a video which perfectly sums up the situation.
“Now I’m not frustrated because people were saying that I was gay at all, I have no problem with that ’cause it wouldn’t make a difference to me. I’m frustrated because in this day and age people have the audacity to write online that I’m gay as if it were a bad thing. That’s all I really have to say about that. I just wish those 1% of people would grow up. I love you guys.”
