Recent news of Freeform cancelling one of everyone’s favourite shows Shadowhunters sent fans into an absolute spin. Even cast members were heartbroken over the news, and confused as to why such a popular show would be cancelled.
Quickly, fans started petitioning online for another network to save the show, reminding them of how much it has meant to them over the years.
But simple petitioning wasn’t all they did.
Fans started an actual fundraiser to prove just how serious they are about saving the show.
So far, they have raised over $11,000 for The Trevor Project – which is an organisation that provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention to the LGBTQ+ community, in order to “showcase the generosity of the Shadowhunters fandom.”
Wow.
The site explains, “Currently fans are working hard on a #SaveShadowhunters campaign, but we thought it would be useful to channel some of our passion and frustration to raise awareness and also showcase the generosity of the Shadowhunters fandom. Let’s show off the power of our fandom to do good.”
The show is known for how amazing they represent the LGBTQ+ community, with Alec Lightwood and Mangus Bane (two guys) being one of the main couples in the show.
So far, over 100,000 people have also signed a Change.org petition to bring back the show. But as of right now, neither Freeform or any other network has made any moves about saving the show.
We can dream on.
