In the past few months, Selena Gomez has been opening up more and more about her past, and her incredibly high-profile relationship with ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber.
Her most recent interview in Interview Magazine was just as candid, with the superstar chatting to comedian Amy Schumer.

First up, Selena delved into how the media has covered her entire life. She said she doesn’t “remember a time” when she wasn’t in the spotlight so heavily.
“Sometimes it’s been bad for my career, but other times it’s like, ‘Now I can talk about things like my depression and anxiety, things that I’ve struggled with and which I’m totally open about, because I believe in seeking help,'” she said. “But other than that, what keeps me grounded is that I do my best to avoid it. It’s not like I don’t live my life.”

However, she said she did really have an issue with it when things got “out of control” in her life. “I was like, ‘Wait, none of this is true.’ The way the media has sometimes tried to explain things has made it sound really bad, when in reality there’s nothing wrong with the fact that I needed to go away or that I fell in love,” she explained. “I had to start opening up because people were taking away my narrative and it was killing me. I’m so young and I’m going to keep changing, and no one has the right to tell me how my life’s going.”

Selena is obviously referring to her on-again-off-again relationship with ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber, which spanned over eight years of her life.
She said that she realised that she “needed to hit rock-bottom to understand that there was this huge veil over my face.”
When Selena checked out of her mental health treatment last year is when she wrote, “Lose You to Love Me.”

Amy later asked Selena: “I think people worry about you. I’ve worried about you. Should we be worried about you?”
“No,” Selena replied. “I’ve gone through some really difficult stuff, and because of those moments, whether I liked it or not, a picture was painted of my life.” She continued, saying “People worry about me because I’ve had some trouble in the past, and it’s kind, it is. But I’m okay. I deal with what I deal with, and if I feel like I’m having a rough week or I’m not up to doing something, I don’t do it.”
