An 89-year-old Catholic nun who was suing Katy Perry over the sale of a Los Angeles convent has collapsed and died in court.
Sister Catherine Rose Holzman was one of two elderly nuns who had been trying to stop the sale of the three-hectare convent for years.
She attended a legal proceeding in Los Angeles County Court on Friday where she pleaded for the pop star to save their convent.
“To Katy Perry, please stop. It’s not doing anyone any good except hurting a lot of people,” Ms Holzman said earlier in the day as she entered the courthouse with Sister Rita Callanan.
During the proceeding, she reportedly collapsed and was rushed to hospital where she passed away shortly after.
Ms Holzman was a member of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary along with four other nuns who lived at the convent.
The nuns tried to sell the property for $US15.5 million to restaurateur Dana Hollister a few years back to be turned into a hotel.
The Archdiocese of Los Angeles sued to block the sale in 2015 on the grounds that the nuns did not have the authority to sell the property to Hollister.
A judge ruled in 2016 that the sale was invalid, which led Katy Perry to buy the site from the archdiocese.
A spokeswoman for Perry has not responded to any media outlet’s request for comment.
