Jameela Jamil is facing some serious hate after calling her new ad campaign “inclusive”.
The star of The Good Place announced she was partnering with the clothing brand Aerie as a spokesmodel.
Jameela shared a few images from the campaign on twitter saying “So excited to announce that I am joining @Aerie as an #aerierolemodel and got to stand next to so many women I admire at our shoot. No retouching and inclusive of everyone”.
“A plus size model, a Paralympian, a south Asian, a black woman, a gay woman, a blind woman, activists, game changers and women who use their platform to fight for others. I’ve never seen a campaign like this before that represents so many minorities and I’m proud to be in it” she wrote in another tweet.
Unfortunately, she is being completely dragged on Twitter for it.
Jameela stars in the campaign alongside gymnast Aly Raisman, model Iskra Lawrence, actors Samira Wiley and Busy Philipps, Paralympic snowboarder Brenna Huckaby, poet and artist Cleo Wade and content creator Molly Burke.
Although Jameela boasts inclusivity and no retouched photos, followers were quick to point out the campaign didn’t represent everyone with a limited range of body types in the group.
Especially for a brand that only sells sizes up to XXL.
Jameela quickly responded to the critics on twitter apologizing for her choice of word tweeting that she meant “disability, ethnicity, colourism, blindness, sexual assault survivors and LGBTQ inclusion.”
She also told her followers she had spoken to the brand and they were working on being more size inclusive. She also decided against deleting her tweet so we can “learn from the mistake of the problematic use of the word so we can all learn to be more careful.”
Amen.
