Trying to teach young girls about body image can be a tough task but Rachael Finch is doing her best to educate her five-year-old daughter Violet.

“I’m noticing even though Violet’s only five and a half, she’s so different in her thoughts and opinions to what Dom will be,” Rachael told Girlfriend’s Beauty Boss podcast.

“He’s two but I can still see some of his thoughts and opinions come through but Violet’s saying things like ‘Why does skinny mean, mum?’ and ‘Why do we eat this food? What’s this food doing to me?’ or ‘Do I look pretty?’ or ‘How come my hair does this? Will all my teeth fall out?’”

Despite Violet’s young age, Rachael has noticed that her daughter is already inquisitive about her appearance and characteristics.

“As a mum, I’ve got to be really cautious and careful on how I approach the answers and the education and the best thing that I think for me that I’ve had to learn is nothing will beat monkey see monkey do,” she said. “Nothing will beat the way that you act and that’s what she will take so what my actions are will be exactly what she follows.”

In order to be the best role model for her daughter, Rachael includes Violet in all of her healthy habits.

“So if I’m making a smoothie in the morning and putting all the ingredients in and she’s standing there with me, she’s watching,” Rachael said. “If I’m on the balcony practicing yoga or doing a workout and she’s there with the music on next to me, she sees that. If I’m sitting there meditating and she asks why have you got your eyes closed, sitting there not talking I’ll explain to her so I’m trying the best as I can to actually guide her through this beautiful process.”
