Instagram is a weird place.
It can bring likes and endless amounts of love and support, but it’s also a place where trolling flourishes.
Even singer, actress, and model, Alli Simpson, has dealt with negative comments from trolls in the past.
“When Instagram started, I remember when I first signed up and I was getting comments like that and I was like ‘I don’t want to post photos anymore,’” Alli told Girlfriend’s Beauty Boss podcast.
As she’s gotten older, Alli says that she’s found new ways to cope with this trolling behaviour.
“When I was younger I used to take it to heart a lot more,” she said. “It would definitely bother me and I think that’s because you are 14, 15, 16 and you don’t know who you are yet so if someone says something about you, you’re like ‘It’s true!’ It really hits you close to home but I’ve noticed that the more that I go along with my career and figure out who I am more, it definitely bothers me less.”
The 21-year-old also relies on her family for support and they use humour to deal with it.
“I talk to my family a lot so I’ll bring it up to them and we’ll end up laughing about it or joking about it and just making it a lighthearted conversation and just not taking it personally,” she said.
“My family is very positive all the time and I’m a big talker and I think the worst thing that you can do if you are getting bullied or you are getting negative comments is to stay alone and be sad about it because it’s only going to make it worse so just talk to people.”
Solid advice!
