Itโs time to run to your bookshelf and check if youโve got a first edition Harry Potter hiding away somewhere because a copy of Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone just sold for ยฃ68,812 at an auction in London.
Thatโs around $125,000!!!!!!!
BRB
There are only 500 of these first edition copies lurking around so itโs pretty rare to find one, but fingers crossed.
The lucky owner of the book was JK Rowlingโs first literary agent Christopher Little. He sold the rights to Harry Potter and the Philosopherโs Stone to Bloomsbury in 1996.
There are a few checks you need to go through to make sure youโve definitely got a 1997 first edition copy.
- You need a publisherโs imprint page with the number sequence from 10 to 1.
- Rowlingโs name printed as โJoanne Rowlingโ.
- Page 53 with the duplication of โ1 wandโ on the list on magical school equipment.
- You need the misspelling โPhilospherโsโ instead of โPhilosopherโsโ on the interior cover.
- Lastly, it also has a random drawing of a wizard on the back cover, who isnโt featured in the Wizarding World.
So happy checking.
