How much?

Itโ€™s time to run to your bookshelf and check if youโ€™ve got a first edition Harry Potter hiding away somewhere because a copy of Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone just sold for ยฃ68,812 at an auction in London.

Thatโ€™s around $125,000!!!!!!!

There are only 500 of these first edition copies lurking around so itโ€™s pretty rare to find one, but fingers crossed.

The lucky owner of the book was JK Rowlingโ€™s first literary agent Christopher Little. He sold the rights to Harry Potter and the Philosopherโ€™s Stone to Bloomsbury in 1996.

There are a few checks you need to go through to make sure youโ€™ve definitely got a 1997 first edition copy.

  • You need a publisherโ€™s imprint page with the number sequence from 10 to 1.
  • Rowlingโ€™s name printed as โ€˜Joanne Rowlingโ€™.
  • Page 53 with the duplication of โ€œ1 wandโ€ on the list on magical school equipment.
  • You need the misspelling โ€˜Philospherโ€™sโ€™ instead of โ€˜Philosopherโ€™sโ€™ on the interior cover.
  • Lastly, it also has a random drawing of a wizard on the back cover, who isnโ€™t featured in the Wizarding World.

So happy checking.
