There has been a lot of drama surrounding the second installment of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (titled Fantastic Beasts: the Crimes of Grindelwald), because of Johnny Depp‘s involvement.

During the first movie, Johnny was revealed at the end to be Grindelwald. People were really annoyed about this casting, as he landed the role after his ex-wife Amber Heard had accused him of domestic violence.

In light of the #TimesUp movement, it’s interesting that both JK Rowling and director David Yates have defended their actions in keeping Johnny in the franchise.

However… the OG Harry Potter Daniel Radcliffe himself has now come out and spoken about the matter, and he’s got on heck of an analogy.

Telling Entertainment Weekly, he explained that, “I can see why people are frustrated with the response that they were given from that… I’m not saying anything that anybody hasn’t already said — and this is a weird analogy to draw — but in the NFL, there are lots of players arrested for smoking weed and there is other people’s behaviour that goes way beyond that and it’s tolerated because they’re very famous players.

“I suppose the thing I was struck by was, we did have a guy who was reprimanded for weed on the original Potter film, essentially, so obviously what Johnny has been accused of is much greater than that.”
