ICYMI: earlier this week Riverdale star Charles Melton got dragged to hell when old tweets of his surfaced online.
Basically, he got called out for being a fat-shaming D-bag.
“Fat chicks need to understand wearing yoga pants is a privilege, not a right,” one tweet read.
“Headed to the gym. Word of wisdom for the day… if you’re fat… don’t look in the mirror,” read another.
Yeah, pretty disgusting stuff.
After it all blew up, Charles quickly apologised.
“I’m truly sorry for making inconsiderate comments several years ago and apologize to anyone I hurt. What I posted and said was immature, offensive and inappropriate. I am ashamed of how I acted and there is no excuse for that behavior. I’m striving to do better and will use this experience to grow, helping others to understand how these types of statements are completely unacceptable,” he said.
However, now co-star Camila Mendes has admitted that he personally called her to apologise too.
“Charles called me personally to apologize,” she told Access Hollywood. “He was devastated. He felt really sorry about it and he called me personally. You know, he said, with everything that I stand for, I’m really sorry. I know Charles, I know he’s not actually a bad person.”
Camila has been open about her struggles with an eating disorder in the past, which is why she feels Charles needed to apologise to her in particular.
She continued, “I think its a matter of sometimes you tweet things forever ago, and they’re buried in there and they come out, and it sucks and I do not agree with anything he said or support those statements. I know that’s not what he is.”
