In case you aren’t already obsessed with her like we are, Cartia Mallan is a YouTuber, model and all-round beauty guru.
With more than one million followers online, Cartia is known for being candid about issues like anxiety and being your most authentic self.
Now Cartia has joined Jacqueline Mey and Alanah Smith on Girlfriend’s brand new podcast, Beauty Boss, and revealed how she managed to overcome her insecurities after dealing with self-confidence issues as a teenager.
“Not many people actually know but I was very overweight,” Cartia told GF.
“I’ve lost almost 30kg since I was really young so I struggled so much with self-confidence. I felt like I could never live my life properly because I was so self-conscious and I was bullied.”
This experience in her childhood inspired Cartia to use her platform for a purpose and is why she decided to be brutally honest with her audience.
“I literally got to a point where I have this platform and people are now saying they look up to me and they want to be like me but I was like ‘You don’t even know what I’ve been through.’ You don’t even know what people individually struggle with,” she says.
“I hated that people wanted my life or wanted to be me instead of focusing on how amazing they are so it’s just a natural thing that was in me that was like if I wanted to stay sane within this job, I really needed to do something that could give back and help others.”
According to Cartia, this honesty has helped her build confidence within herself and become more connected with her online community.
“It helped me become more in touch with myself and other people because I would get feedback from them and they’d say ‘I’ve been through this’ or ‘Here’s a tip for this.’ The community that I’ve formed blows my mind, like how intelligent and switched on these girls and boys are,” she says.
