Camila Mendes Is Apparently Not ‘Latina Enough’ For Hollywood Roles

And she isn't having it.

In a recently interview with People Chica, Camila Mendes is opening up about how she has been told she doesn’t look “Latina enough” for many Hollywood roles.

If you think that’s absurd, it’s because it is.

“I’m pretty new to Hollywood, but I’m already starting to see the issues in how some projects are cast,” she said. “I often hear things like, ‘You don’t look Latina enough,’ and that mentality is so backwards. The fact is: I am Latina, so how are you going to tell me that I don’t look Latina?”

“It’s just so refreshing to see a different story being told for Latin families,” she said, referring to her role as Veronica Lodge on Riverdale.

“The Lodge family is a much-needed departure from the underprivileged, sleazy Latino drug-dealers we’re used to seeing in entertainment. It’s rare that you see Latin families being portrayed as intelligent, sophisticated, and powerful entities.”

She also told Teen Vogue that she believes Riverdale has the potential to open people’s minds about race. “It’s inclusive without even trying to be,” she said. “Archie — your most all-American character — is being played by a New Zealand native, who’s also half-Samoan. That’s the world we’re trying to live in.”
