25-year-old Hungarian model Barbara Palvin may have just received angel status with Victoria’s Secret, but it’s now causing major controversy. Why? Because they’ve labelled her their first ‘plus-size’ model.
Yep.
Palvin, who is dating Dylan Sprouse, has only walked in two shows for the lingerie company, the most recent being in the 2018 fashion show. She has struggled for many years to make it past the casting stage.
When it was announced that she was officially an angel, she took to Instagram to write a VERY emotional post.
“I don’t know where to begin but I’ll try. I never thought it would happen and it has exceeded all my expectations. I’m very excited to announce that I’m officially a @victoriassecret ANGEL ! Thank you for believing in me.”
This is the Facebook post labelling her ‘plus-size’ that is gaining a lot of criticism.
The post has gained more than 16,000 comments, with people asking what even constitutes as “plus-size” in Victoria’s Secret world, as Barbara is clearly nowhere near a standard plus-size model’s measurements.
Barbara has been open in the past about her struggle with body confidence, speaking candidly about being fat-shamed.
“Wooow. I got some nasty comments about me being fat,” she tweeted in 2016. ‘Well I am not as skinny as I was when I was 18. But I don’t consider myself fat!”
After Barbara walked the VS show in 2018, she credited it to her finally accepting her body.
“For years, I didn’t believe I would walk another VS runway,” she wrote on Instagram.
“But once I finally accepted myself and my body, I felt comfortable in my own skin; the magic happened and everything fell right into place.”
