Ariana Grande has always been known for producing music we all find catchy, dancey and upbeat, but her upcoming album shows a much softer side to the singer.

Ariana spoke out about the difficulty of writing music again after the Manchester attacks last year, admitting her latest album Sweetener touches on her personal struggles and challenges.

“I’ve always just been like a shiny, singing, 5-6-7- 8, sexy-dance… sexy thing,” Ari said in an interview with The Fader.

“But now it’s like, ‘OK… issa bop — but issa message. Issa bop but also has chunks of my soul in it. Here you go. Also, I cried 10 hundred times in the session writing it for you. Here is my bleeding heart, and here is a trap beat behind it.’ There’s definitely some crying-on the-dancefloor stuff on this one.”

It’s barely been one year after the attack at her concert in Manchester Arena but Ariana says she is still very much affected to this day.

Ariana spoke about recording her music, mentioning her personal heartbreak and anxiety attacks.

“I guess I thought with time, and therapy, and writing, and pouring my heart out, and talking to my friends and family that it would be easier to talk about, but it’s still so hard to find the words”, she said.

“When you’re so close to something so tragic and terrifying and opposite of what music and concerts are supposed to be, it kind of leaves you without any ground beneath your feet.”

Ari recently added the sweetest tattoo to her collection: a bee, which is recognised as a symbol of Manchester.

Her touching tribute shows how strongly the attacks have influenced her life, and we’re sure it has also touched every one of her Manchester fans.
