We’ve always taken a liking to Ariana Grande’s name… mostly because it replicated a Starbucks drink.
But Ari is here to tell us that we’ve been pronouncing her last name wrong this WHOLE time.
It’s not actually meant to be pronounced as “Grahn-day,” instead, it was originally “Gran-dee”.
While chatting with Beats Radio 1, Ariana shared this fact, admitting it was how her grandfather originally pronounced it. “My grandpa said Gran-DEE. Gran-DEE was kind of the Americanised version of it, made it more chill,” she said.
She then explained that her brother Frankie was the one who started changing the way they pronounced it when they were younger. “And then my brother was like, we should say Grahn-DAY,” she said. “It’s so fun to like say it. It’s a funny name. I grew up saying Gran-DEE — and I think of [my grandpa] and I wish I said Gran-DEE more.”
Ariana Gran-dee just doesn’t have the same ring to it!
