Earlier this week, it was revealed that Ariana Grande‘s fiance Pete Davidson had made a tone-deaf joke about the Manchester bombing.
Pete made the joke before he and Ariana were together, while he was at the Laugh Factory in LA.
The Mirror claims that Pete joked about how Ariana must realise how famous she had now become, because “Britney Spears didn’t have a terrorist attack at her concert.”
Sources claim that the joke didn’t draw many laughs from the audience. “It drew gasps from the crowd and everyone squirmed in their seats, the event five months earlier was still pretty fresh, and there were plenty of British tourists in the crowd,” a witness told the website.
Since the news broke, fans have been wondering how the hell Ariana feels about this revelation, after she had previously admitted that she still suffers from PTSD after the attack.
And now… she’s finally addressed the joke.
Responding to a fan on Twitter, the exchange went as follows:
“I respect Ariana and I want her to be happy and everything, but she was just broken after the Manchester bombing, so I don’t know why she is still with Pete, like yeah he made that joke a while ago, but like it’s not funny, it’s just rude. This is my opinion,” a fan wrote.
Ariana then responded: “this has been v tough & conflicting on my heart. he uses comedy to help ppl feel better ab how f-ed up things in this world are. we all deal w trauma differently. I of course didn’t find it funny. it was months ago & his intention wasn’t/ is never malicious but it was unfortunate.
“i hear and respect you all always.”
Ouch.
No doubt this would be a very hard time for Ariana to come to terms with the fact that her fiance would say such a thing that has affected her so personally, but people make mistakes.
Pete is a comedian, who uses dark humour, and while what he said was not okay… it is clear that Ariana has chosen to forgive him.
Now we wonder if there will be some sort of public apology from Pete himself.
