Joining the likes of Will Smith, Javier Bardem, Benedict Cumberbatch and Denzel Washington in the Best Actor field, Andrew is clearly considered among a high calibre of talent.

“There was a moment where they said my name for the thing, and that obviously created a howl in my soul and my friends and my family,” he told The Hollywood Reporter of the moment he watched the nominations.

“We’re all very, very excited and very, very happy, very, very grateful – mostly just grateful that maybe this is an indication that I get to keep on making things that I like to make and acting and telling stories,” he said.

Tick, Tick … Boom! is a film adaptation of Jonathan Larson’s second musical, which delved into his feelings of rejection after his first musical, Superbia, failed to get off the ground.

It follows Jonathan as he creates Rent, his most famous musical, but sadly, he passed away just as it began production off-Broadway.

So, how did he get to this moment?

While Andrew had minor roles in a few big films in the 2000s, like The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and The Other Boleyn Girl, it was the sleepy British dystopia, Never Let Me Go that saw him start to skyrocket to fame.

He was Eduardo Saverin in The Social Network to Jesse Eisenberg’s Mark Zuckerberg, another role that gained him further notoriety.

Finally, Andrew was announced to be the second Peter Parker in the Spider-Man franchise, when the original Tobey Maguire films were re-made.

And if his Best Actor nomination weren’t enough, Andrew will also get to see his co-star, Jessica Chastain, go up for the Best Actress award.

The pair starred together in The Eyes of Tammy Faye, telling the story of American televangelist Tammy Faye and her husband, Jim Bakker, who was convicted on counts of fraud and conspiracy in the 1980s.

You can catch the trailer below, and get a look at an aged Andrew for his role as Jim Bakker.
