The Amazon rainforest in Brazil is currently facing one of the worst fires in history, with the Brazilian people calling it ‘the apocalypse’.
So why is mainstream news only just picking up on it now?

Advocates online have raised some seriously valid concerns, with many pointing out that when the Notre Dame was on fire, it was breaking news worldwide.
However, when the Amazon, which is responsible for creating 20% of the earth’s oxygen, started burning, very few news outlets covered it.
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio first raised the issue last night, writing on Instagram: “Terrifying to think that the Amazon is the largest rain forest on the planet, creating 20% of the earth’s oxygen, basically the lungs of the world, has been on fire and burning for the last 16 days running, with literally NO media coverage whatsoever! Why?”
An abundance of tweets followed, using the trending hashtag #PrayforAmazonia.
