Well, the boys of 5 Seconds of Summer have definitely come back with a bang!
While the boys made us wait three years for a new album, it was certainly worth the wait… and proof is in the history breaking records!!
Youngblood has officially debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Chart, which makes them the first Australian band in history to have its first three albums go to number one in the United States.
THAT.IS.HUGE!!!
It also means they beat the likes of Beyoncé and JAY-Z to reach this huge milestone.
Yeah, we’re proud parents rn.
Billboard reports that Luke Hemmings, Calum Hood, Ashton Irwin and Michael Clifford have sold 142,000 units of the album, according to Nielsen Music.
Bey and Jay-Z sold 123,000.
It was a close race, but when it comes down to it, fangirls make anything happen. 5SOS Twitter accounts quickly organised streaming parties and conducted plans to maximise album sales.
Billboard notes, “Youngblood pulled out ahead in the last couple days of the tracking week thanks to a surge in album sales.”
Ashton expressed his gratitude to their fans earlier, writing, “I am leaving this note here to express my love for music and my love for you!
“One thing I am certain about is my passion and ongoing belief that music, art and active expression in whatever form it may be is my true calling! The way you’ve backed 5SOS over the past 7 years and on the recent album has been truly incredible and is a definitive reminder that the ups and downs of a bands career are totally unpredictable. We are on an incredible high right now. And I am acknowledging it with all my being.”
SO PROUD!
