Amina Mucciolo loves unicorns. So much so she has transformed her downtown Los Angeles apartment into a veritable unicorn haven.
The 32-year-old’s signature candy-coloured aesthetic has attracted almost a quarter of a million followers on Instagram and it permeates every aspect of her life.
Referring to her home as “Cloudland”, she said that it’s the “happiest place” [she’s] “ever lived”.
“It’s really important to me that where I live is a reflection of me and my personality, and also of my husband,” she told Mail Online. “We like for our space to be fun and happy and inspiring.”
“My husband is such a good sport,” Mucciolo said. “He loves it. It makes him happy too. He’s been doing this business with me, so it’s what our lives look like now.”
A big part of Mucciolo’s aesthetic is her clever DIY approach, which she’s applied to every room of her home.
Here, she explains how she used washi tape to transform her kitchen cupboards.
The living room is also evidence of Mucciolo‘s DIY skills and love for colour. Here, she’s adorned her wall with a mass of artificial flowers.
And an impressive collection of framed art makes an eye-popping gallery wall.
But perhaps the highlight of the apartment is the living room wall, which Mucciolo layered with splatters of pastel paint.
“I knew I wanted for there to be a rainbow element in my home, at least one really strong rainbow statement,” she explained of the wall, which took two days to complete. “I love it so much because I knew it would be great but I was still so scared to do it… But I followed my instinct and I knew it was gonna be good,” she said.
The unicorn trend extends to Mucciolo‘s vibrant bedroom, which features her signature tassel garland and collection of cute bags.
Mucciolo told Modcloth that she’s inspired by children’s art and children’s fashion “because kids’ stuff is just better!”
“Everything they make for children is full of imagination, and it’s fun to me. I always find myself shopping at Pottery Barn Kids to find things and colours I like. I think that adults forget to lighten up and use their imaginations. But I know plenty of people who just want to have fun, and they want that infused into their everyday.”
