It was just about time for another supposedly fun, but actually awful, internet body shaming trend! This time it’s the #UnderBoobChallenge that asks girls to hold a pen under their breasts without touching it. The trend aims to prove you’re a “real woman” if your chesticles are big enough to carry a pen. Hmmm… can you smell some incorrect logic?! (We don’t know what that smells like but probably burnt tyres).
WARNING: These images contain pictures of women’s chest and may not suitable for everyone. They’re also NSFW so don’t scroll anymore if you’re underage!
Besides the fact that any trend that asks you to share pictures of your body on the internet is questionable, it’s also pitting women against each other to reach ‘perfect standards’.
The trend first appeared on Chinese microblogging site Weibo (yes, the thoughtful peeps who brought you the A4 paper challenge) and has now gone viral worldwide. It also goes by the #PenChallenge or #CarryPenUnderBreast, and no matter what it’s named, we’re uncomfortable about it.
Despite some people taking it too seriously (and making themselves feel awful in the process if they can’t do it), there’s also a wonderful amount of people mocking the challenge. We’ve seen guys taping highlighters to their chests and girls wedging objects behind the knees instead.
If you really want to challenge yourself, we recommend this confidence challenge (it’s much better for your body and soul!).
