We know it’s hard to hear, but the truth hurts!
If you don’t spend half your life binge-watching shows on Netflix, are you even living?
It’s true, most of us spend a lot of time on the streaming service, and who can blame us? However, according to Deadline, a new study has suggested that binge-watching Netflix may lead to an increased risk of developing blood clots.
Yikes.
The study saw 15,000 participants monitored over a 24-year period.
Participants were then divided into groups which depended on how much they watch TV.
The study found that those who watched TV “very often” had a 1.7 times higher risk of developing deep vein thrombosis (blood clots in the leg or pulmonary embolisms that can be life-threatening).
Clots can be developed from sitting for an extended period of time. So no, it’s not Netflix’s fault, it’s just the act of sitting there and watching it for so long.
According to the study, the damage can’t be undone by doing exercise.
Lead researcher, Dr. Yasuhiko Kubota suggests, “Even individuals who regularly engage in physical activity should not ignore the potential harms of prolonged sedentary behaviours such as TV viewing.”
