Ways That You’re Unexpectedly Making Your Period Worse

It's bad enough as it is!!!

Look, having your period is never fun. It’s painful, and screws with your mood. However, you could totally be making that time of the month worse for yourself, without even knowing about it!

So, here are some things that you could be doing that’s messing with your menstruation.

YOUR SLACK WITH YOUR CONTRACEPTION

If you’re on the pill, you have to take it at the same time everyday to ensure that it can work to its fullest extent.

If you’ve ever forgotten to take your pill for a few days in a row, you probably noticed irregular bleeding and spotting. If you do this, when you actually do get your period, your cramps can potentially be a lot more painful. To ensure that your pill is protecting you the way it is intended do, be vigilant about taking it every day at the same time.

Research conducted by Health Care Women International found that girls can get longer and irregular periods if they have irregular sleeping patterns. Aside from the occasional late night from getting that assessment finished, or having a sleepover with the #squad, make sure your sleeping pattern is as regular as possible to avoid disturbing your flow.

YOU ARE TOTALLY S T R E S S E D

Periods are centred around your hormones, so, naturally… stress will affect those hormones. Shocker. Stressing out can really mess with the regularity of your period and it could even cause you to skip a cycle completely. Make sure you’re giving yourself enough down time and relaxation to ensure that you’re chill enough to keep your menstruation on the right track!

CAWWFEEE!

We know that coffee is delicious and just the right kick you need to wake you up in the mornings, but unfortunately, it can be a real shocker for your period. Caffeine mixed with PMS can result in some awful mood swings, so, it’s best to steer clear from coffee, cola, fizzy and energy drinks during that time of the month.

YOU’RE WORKING OUT TOO MUCH

We know that working out and keeping fit is totes important, but if you go too hard you can imbalance your hormone levels, which could cause you to skip your period. By training too much and using up too much energy, you could cause your body to shut down other functions that preserve energy, which includes your menstrual cycle.

Besides, you’re naturally feeling a little bleh during your cycle, so take a break from the gym and relax!
