From Starbucks frappuccinos and bread to makeup and hair, it seems like there’s unicorn everything these days!
Now, after being told our ENTIRE lives that these mystical creatures we’re obsessed with are just part of some fairytale, science has just proved that they actually DID exist!
Yup, researchers have discovered a unicorn—or “Elasmotherium sibiricum”—skull fossil in the Pavlodar region of Kazakhstan and turns out they roamed the planet about 29,000 years ago.
Only thing is, they didn’t exactly look like the pretty white horses with colourful manes, wings and horns that we’ve been imagining. According to Science Alert, they were more like a rhinoceros than horse.
And apparently they were HUGE! The American Journal of Applied Sciences study revealed that the “unicorns” were about six feet (1.8m) tall, 15 feet (4.5m) long and weighed around 8,000 pounds (3,628kg)!!!
Scientists initially thought they became extinct 350,000 years ago so they’re pretty shook rn. And considering how freaking big they were, we’re kinda glad they didn’t stick around!
So next time someone tells you unicorns don’t exist, just show them this.
