If you’re old enough to have reached puberty, you’re old enough to probably be fully aware of the good side of saving your lady bits, waxing, or whatever other ways keep you happy in terms of keeping yourself looking nice *down there*. BUT! There’re a few things you never really think of when it comes to your bits and personal grooming that aren’t all just about ingrown hairs…
Humans are the only mammalian special to have long, coarse public hair in our sensitive areas. Scientists have hypothesised this is so – y’know, if we were still uncivilised – we could attract potential partners who dig what we’ve got, like our pheromones and other natural, wild things. Wow.
But, coz basically everyone shaves or waxes their bits these days – boys, too! – there are some things you should probably worry about or at very least be aware of! Yeah sure, ingrown hairs are one factor, but there’re a whole lotta other reasons that AsapScience reported that will kinda make you go *ew*…
1. Itching, rashes and ingrown hairs
Their research revealed 75% of people who’ve removed their pubes have experienced annoying genital itching and 40% have even suffered from some sort of a rash. That’s on top of the infamous ingrown hairs!
2. It can spread STDs!
Umm… yuck! Yeah sure, instances of pubic lice (which is like regular lice, but they live in *that* part of your body) have decreased, but waxing or shaving can create tiny abrasions on the skin that can open you up to diseases like gonorrhea , chlamydia and even HPV! YIKES!
3. Injuries?!
Apparently the most reported genital injuries in the emergency rooms of the USA are a consequence of hair removal. Ouch and ew.
