As the old saying goes, beauty is the eye of the beholder. But, when it comes to fashion on Disney Channel in the 2000’s, it couldn’t be any less from the truth. From Hannah Montana to That’s So Raven and High School Musical, there’s something just so wrong about the costuming of this era of Disney live action TV.
Here are just a few examples.
In 2005, at the premiere of Ice Princess, Ashley Tisdale, the queen of wearing a lovably tacky pink boa, debuted this chaotic look—a white tee layered over a sequinned top, with a gold sequinned skirt over jeans underneath, equipped with a bunch of bangles and a keyboard-shaped purse. First of all, a white tee and jeans is not a red carpet look, but pieced together with colour and pattern clashing sequinned items… it’s an absolute mess.
Aaand this is her now.
Hannah Montana outfits were never good but what was going on with this? Poor Miley Cyrus was dressed in a tank top layered with a distressed leather jacket, tiered skirt over jeans and knee high studded boots... the lack of taste… far too little.
This is her now.
Okay, what in God's name is going on here on this day? In 2017, fellow Hannah Montana star Michael Musso shared an old photo of him dressed in one of his character's costumes. The fit—if you can call it that—featured a diamond plaid zip cardigan over a double collared shirt and purple sweater, with a pair of striped patterned pants and very ugly shoes.
And, just like us, Musso had questions.
“What in the actual f**k,” said Musso at the time. “Why [did] they do me so dirty?”
And look, this is just a tiny fraction of some of the worst looks to exist in this era. As the internet has quickly pointed out, whoever was the stylist for all of these shows should be fired.
