Zayn Malik has always been open with his religious beliefs, however, in a new interview he has revealed that he no longer identifies as Muslim.
Speaking to British Vogue, he explained how he doesn’t actually believe in ‘any’ religion.
“I’m not professed to be a Muslim,” he told the mag. When asked if he would consider himself to be Muslim, he responded: ‘No, I wouldn’t.'”
While Zayn had a “spiritual belief” of a god, he didn’t actually endorse Islam religious practices, such as praying daily and eating halal meat.
Zayn’s revelation has sparked some major backlash online, with some fans saying they are “ashamed” of him, also criticising him for “mocking” the religion.
Zayn continued to explain that “I don’t believe you need to eat a certain meat that’s been prayed over a certain way, I don’t believe you need to read a prayer in a certain language five times a day.
“I don’t believe any of it. I just believe if you’re a good person everything is going to go right for you.”
