Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron were our ultimate OTP back in the day and when they broke up, a part of our soul died along with their relationship.
Now with all the talk of High School Musical 4 (yup, it’s ACTUALLY happening guys!), Ness has been asked about her former bae and why it didn’t work out.
They got together about two years after their awks (but totally cute) flirt fest during the HSM auditions in 2005 and then split after four incredible years together, saying the decision was mutual. But the question that never got answered was why they broke up… until now.
Turns out dating one of the hottest guys on the planet has its drawbacks, i.e. that literally EVERYONE else wants to be with him too. A little while back, Vanessa spilled that it was pretty tough dating Zac because of the insane amount of attention he got from girls everywhere.
She also admitted that the jealousy brought out the worst in her and there was a time when the anger took over.
“I went through a phase when I was really mean because I was so fed up,” Vanessa told New York Times. “Girls were running after him, and I was giving them death stares. Then I realised that’s not what that’s about.”
Once she realised she didn’t want to be that person anymore, she thought it was best that they broke up.
But look at her now… she’s super happy with her new man Austin Butler, she scored her dream role as the lead in Gigi on Broadway and she’s got a new motto: “Spread the love, be a good person, they support you, be nice.” Keep slaying babes.
