Tumblr… one of the largest and most popular social platforms isn’t being listed in the App Store right now, which is a pretty big deal.
Why? Well it’s dark.
The App Store quickly discovered that Tumblr had failed to filter out sexual images of children on its mobile app, which is illegal.
Download.com pressed Tumblr pretty hard about why they got removed from the store, where they explained that Apple removed them after discovering the child pornography.
The company soon released a statement to the press, where they blame an internal automatic auditing system, failing to pick up on the images and filter them out.
Tumblr explained how every image uploaded to their platform is “scanned against an industry database of child sexual abuse material” to filter out such offending materials.
Apple enforces that all apps have this capability if they wish to be listed.
According to The Verge, the company says getting the app back on the store is their “top priority”.
