Lionsgate has just announced that the brand new movie is definitely happening, with the title ‘The Ballad of Songbirds And Snakes’.
However, before you get too excited to see Katniss, Peeta and Gale back on your screens, Deadline has reported that it will be set wayyyyy in the past, to the 10th Hunger Games, focussing on President Snow before he became the evil genius we knew him to be.

“The prequel movie will focus on Coriolanus Snow at age 18, years before he would become the tyrannical President of Panem,” reported the publication.
“Young Coriolanus is handsome and charming, and though the Snow family has fallen on hard times, he sees a chance for a change in his fortunes when he is chosen to be a mentor for the Tenth Hunger Games… only to have his elation dashed when he is assigned to mentor the girl tribute from impoverished District 12.”

The original director Francis Lawrence will be returning to the film, which means it’s going to be absolutely brilliant.
Author of the novels, Suzanne Collins, will be an executive producer and will write the film’s treatment. Michael Arndt will write the script.
The good news is that there is actually a book being released too, ‘A Ballad of Songbirds And Snakes’, which will be released on May 19.

There is currently no release date for the prequel, but production is set to start AS SOON as the Coronavirus pandemic is over.
Dust off your old Hunger Games books and get in the spirit to do a movie marathon guys!
