In case you weren’t on social media over the weekend, you may have missed the royal F up that was #TanaCon.
YouTuber, Tana Mongeau, also known as Bella Thorne’s side chick, hosted a convention for creators and fans over the weekend, but it was over before it even began.
Due to an overwhelming response in attendance, the event was shut down.
The event was expecting appearances from Bella Thorne, Shane Dawson, Miranda Sings, and other surprise guests, but all anyone can really take away from it is a sea of unexpected guests.
Fans waiting in the heat started getting sick, as Polygon reports.
Tana addressed wtf was going on during the event on Twitter. “Straight up, there are 20,000 people outside so we are doing everything to get AS MANY people inside as the venue as we can as safely as possible and are doing our best to extend to another day for free completely my loves.”
She also shared later that she was “sending hundreds of employees outside to separate the crowd from people with tickets already and people without to get as many people inside as possible!”
But… the event eventually got shut down due to “unsafe conditions”.
“I just want to reiterate 20,000 people showed up outside which is unsafe anywhere and security and safety is my number one priority. We were told vidcon itself was holding around 20,000 and we are so mind blown,” she tweeted.
In general, it was all just a hot mess.
Fans told Polygon that they were told to arrive between 6 and 8 a.m. so they could register, which is what contributed to the long hours of waiting outside. “There wasn’t any sort of information, or any sort of ‘this is taking a while, let’s do something to not make it so bad.'” a fan called Megan said. “It’s just, like, ‘This is a problem and we’re going to have to deal with it now.'”
However, it’s fellow YouTuber and former friend James Charles that seemed most disappointed in Tana and the event.
James explained online that he had instructed Tana to take precautions for this exact reason, but she didn’t listen. “I told her NOT to do half of the exact things she did yesterday & she didn’t listen, as usual,” he wrote.
“& things went to shit,” he continued. “I’ve tried to make our friendship work for months but she has no respect for other people’s times and I can’t believe you guys CAN’T F-ING RECOGNISE THAT.”
Wowza.
Eventually, Tana thanked James for being real with her, and apologised to her fans for the major stuff up.
“and straight up i wanna thank shane and james for being so real with me and being the only people to tell me that cancelling and working toward something better would be so much smarter than choosing my pride and shit being unsafe. they kept it real as f*** with me & i love them.”
