ICYMI: Ruby Rose has been cast as Batwoman in the upcoming DC Comics crossover coming out on The CW later this year.
Being someone who identifies as a lesbian and gender-fluid, this is a HUGE step in the right direction for representation in the role. However, her casting has not been something fans are taking well.
Apparently, people wanted a lesbian to play Batwoman. Just not this lesbian, which is ridiculous.
Now, because of the harassment, Ruby has been receiving, she has quit Twitter.
SyFy noticed that Ruby had left Twitter over the weekend, which came after she tweeted this:
“Where on earth did ‘Ruby is not a lesbian therefore she can’t be Batwoman’ come from — has to be the funniest most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read. I came out at 12? And have for the past 5 years had to deal with ‘she’s too gay’ how do y’all flip it like that? I didn’t change.”
Wild.
It came so shortly after Ruby expressed how excited she was to land the role in an appearance on The Tonight Show. She explained, “Growing up watching TV, I never saw someone on TV that I could identify with, let alone a superhero.”
She had also written on Instagram: “This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on tv and felt alone and different.“
We personally can’t WAIT to see Ruby as Batwoman! Girl is gonna kill it.
