Rita Ora comes out to her fans in an emotional letter

We didn't expect this.

It hasn’t been a great week for Rita Ora.

Can you imagine coming up with a song you think is an absolute banger, throwing some sugar and spice on it in the form of Bebe RexhaCardi B and Charli XCX, only to be completely SHUNNED by everyone after its release?

It’s hard. But, as someone who is prominent in the music industry, she should have been more aware of the criticism her bisexually baited song would get.

Both Hayley Kiyoko and Kehlani, two highly esteemed figures in the LGBTQ community have publicly come out and called the song “harmful”, and now, Rita has finally apologised, and come out as bisexual.

“Hello everyone reading this,” she began. “Girls was written to represent my truth and is an accurate account of a very real and honest experience in my life. I have had romantic relationships with women and men throughout my life and this is my life and this is my personal journey.

“I am sorry how I expressed myself if my song has hurt anyone. I would never intentionally cause any harm to other LGBTQ+ people or anyone. Looking forward, I hope that continuing to express myself through my art will empower my fans to feel as proud of themselves as I’m learning to feel about who I am. I’m ever thankful to my fans for teaching me to love myself no matter what. I have strived to be a contributor to the LGBTQ+ community throughout my entire career and always will be.

“Love, Rita.”
