Designer Kate Spade, who founded the amazing fashion label Kate Spade New York, was found dead on Tuesday of an apparent suicide.
In a statement to the New York Daily News, Kate’s family have said that they are “devastated by today’s tragedy.”
“We loved Kate dearly and will miss her terribly. We would ask that our privacy be respected as we grieve during this very difficult time.”
Kate’s sister Eve Brosnahan was contacted by phone, but “struggled to speak” as the Daily News reports. “It’s very difficult,” she said. “I can’t right now. I just can’t.”
Following the tragic news of her death, celebrities have shown their support for the businesswoman.

Kate Spade was more than a designer. She had a quirky visual language that captivated Bat Mitzvah girls and artists alike. She was also a staple of NYC who spread good will. My heart breaks for her family. Thank you, Kate, from one of the millions you made feel beautiful.

Kate Spade & her brand have always been so kind to me the past couple years & I’m crushed to hear about her passing. Suicide isn’t “the easy way out” and shouldn’t be mocked. My heart goes out to her family & team today 😭💕
