Jeffree Star responds to that “Cremated” controversy

“If you take it that way, that’s how you articulate things but b*tch, not me.”

Earlier this week, YouTube makeup mogul Jeffree Star unveiled his new eyeshadow collection called Cremated. The collection includes a 24-shade eyeshadow palette, four new lip glosses and some spooky and cute accessories. But although it looks cute, it was also heavily criticised by folks on Twitter for its death-themed name, especially since it’s being released during the middle of a pandemic. Y’know, when, as of writing, over 323,000 people have died from Covid-19.

And now, Star has responded to the controversy and people questioning the inappropriate name of the collection, admitting that “if you take it that way, that’s how you articulate things but b*tch, not me.”

“Now, listen, Cremated and everything I’ve ever created—it’s my art—to me, it’s not just an eyeshadow palette,” he told fans on Snapchat. “It’s way more than that. There’s always so many meanings with my art… and that’s what it is, it’s mine.”

“I created it for the world, it is allowed to be interpreted any way that anyone wants to take it but I always come from a good place and this palette is f*cking sickening and I’m so proud of it.”

Star then explained that despite the allegations that it seemed like the YouTube makeup mogul completely disregarded all the people who’ve experienced grief and loss during the last few months of the Covid-19 pandemic, he’s lost people too and had them cremated.

“On a real level you guys, my own father was cremated. My two dogs that passed away last year were cremated. So, nothing ever comes from a negative place in my life.”

And look, here at Girlfriend, we love a good makeup palette and we’re spent more than a few hours watching Jeffree on YouTube. But some feel that Star’s response feels a bit dismissive of the people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, especially when he’s releasing the product right as the U.S. surpasses 1.5 million confirmed cases.
