Of all the singers and bands who have been accused of ripping off other musicians, this has to be the most disappointing one.
Australian songwriters Sean Carey and Beau Golden are accusing darling angel Ed Sheeran of ripping off their 2014 song “When I Found You” as it allegedly bears similarities to “The Rest of Our Life,” a song released by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill and co-written by Ed.
A lawsuit was filed on Wednesday in New York federal court which claims that Ed’s song “blatant[ly] copied” their 2014 song “When I Found You,” performed by Jasmine Rae.
“The copying is, in many instances, verbatim, note-for-note copying of original elements of the Song, and is obvious to the ordinary observer,” the complaint reads.
They are seeking a whopping $5 million in damages along with an injunction for the song to be permanently blocked.
Ed has not yet commented on the plagiarism allegations.
