Demi Lovato is the latest of many celebs to promote a detox tea on Instagram and fans are NOT happy about it.
The drama started when Demi shared a sponsored post offering a 20% discount on Teami Blends products.
“This year is all about #selflove truly taking care of myself and exercising has changed everything for me,” she wrote. “@teamiblends has #sponsored my 30 day detox challenge to help get rid of toxins and my bloating for summer,” she wrote. “I’m on Day 7 right now & it’s so easy!”
And it didn’t take long for her followers to call her out for promoting a product that has reportedly been slammed by health officials over potential irritation of the colon. Others pointed out that the brand also sells Teami Skinny, which promises to help shed kilos quickly.
But fans are mostly upset that Demi would promote a detox tea considering she’s overcome an eating disorder and branded herself an advocate for body positivity.
“Teas like this have laxative effects and ‘purge’ the body — therefore is a magnet for eating disorders,” one commenter wrote, adding that she herself had battled an eating disorder. “And now [Demi] is promoting [the diet] industry in full awareness that, as an ED spokesperson, many of her followers are vulnerable.”
Thousands of fans have expressed how “disappointed” they are that she would do this and have even asked her to remove the post:

“Please take this post down”
This is a detox tea?? Stop, Demi!! This is dangerous, this is a laxative tea and this is not healthy. Healthy is carrots, rice, fruits… And practice physical exercises. This tea is a WRONG message for many girls”
“Don’t promote this garbage”
Other fans have actually come to her defence, explaining that she’s not promoting a “weight loss” product. “It’s a detox tea, NOT for WEIGHT LOSS in particular! Read the caption again!” one commenter wrote.
“For anyone that didn’t read her caption, this tea is meant for detoxing (cleaning out the built up toxins, helping with bloating, clearer skin, etc). Not necessarily losing weight,” another said. “These teas aren’t actually *meant* for losing weight and Teami definitely doesn’t promote it solely as a weight loss detox. On top of that, everything in the tea is allll natural. So please read into the facts before you get riled up.
So what does Temi Blends think about all the drama? Apparently they’re not too fussed…
