Demi Lovato has been uniquely open to the world about her struggle with substance abuse over the years. She has opened up about dealing with drugs and alcohol… but most importantly, how she has come so far and been sober for six long years.
But, as life happens, Demi has broken her sobriety.
Instead of hiding it from the world and making it a bigger issue for herself, she is opening up in the best way she knows how: through her music.
Demi has released a new single called “Sober” where she explains how she has relapsed while apologising to her family.
“I got no excuses/ For all of these goodbyes,” she sings to open the song. “Wake me up when the shakes are gone/ And the cold sweats disappear/ Call me when it’s over/ And myself has reappeared.”
She continues, “Mama I’m so sorry I’m not sober anymore/ And daddy please forgive me for the drinks spilled on the floor.
“I’m sorry that I’m here again/ I promise I’ll get help,” she sings. “It wasn’t my intention/ I’m sorry to myself.”
Ouch.
