You’d be hard-pressed to find a harder working model than Gigi Hadid.

Since she first burst out on the scene, she has taken her job seriously, which means she has had to be conscious of her health.

Watch: Gigi Hadid shows fans her baby bump.

Gigi, 26, who’s walked in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show three times and is always turning heads at Met Galas, follows an intense routine to stay in shape — counting boxing, weight training and volleyball as her favourite workouts.

This approach to wellness worked for Gigi long before giving birth to her daughter and was her holy grail to feel fit and healthy when she was modelling full time.

A self-confessed fitness addict, Gigi knows the power of switching up workout routines, with her trainer Rob Piela telling Women’s Health: “No one wants to be doing the same thing over and over, and they like to be challenged. So we shake things up depending on how [she’s] feeling. Consistency is key.”

As expected, the model also sticks to a clean, protein-heavy diet with minimal carbs—though she’s affably shared her love for burgers on plenty of occasions in the past, famously saying “Eat clean to stay fit, have a burger to stay sane”.

Here are all of Gigi’s top tips for shaping a routine that you won’t get fed up with or frustrated over.

Nutrition

As with many supermodels, Gigi is a protein fiend—and incorporates plenty of it into her diet.

The model told Harper’s BAZAAR US that she loves scrambled eggs and toast as it’s an “easy go-to”.

She also said: “My boyfriend, being British, got me into breakfast beans, so that’s what I’ve been eating lately.”

Her favourite salad is an arugula salad, which involves plenty of rocket and Parmesan cheese, and her favourite snacks are “salami, chips, hummus, carrots and fruit,” according to SELF.
Plenty of models have openly discussed omitting caffeine for their health and well-being, but Gigi has long stated her dependence on coffee to get through the day—something we can definitely relate to.

As much as Gigi enjoys comfort foods, when the model is preparing for a job it’s been reported that she drinks smoothies. This type of food restriction is not something you should do without a doctor’s supervision. Gigi only restricts herself for work, which is a part of model life and not something that is recommended daily.

Though plenty of models’ diets involve some method of fasting, Hadid has been open about the fact that starving yourself is never a viable option—for your health, or for your sanity.

Speaking to SELF in 2016, Gigi said: “If I don’t have milk and bread and eggs, then I can’t deal.”

Fitness

While Gigi might be occasionally liberal with some of the foods she eats, the eldest Hadid sister knocks it out of the park in the fitness department.

Attending Gotham Gym in New York City, Gigi’s trainer fills her workout schedule with plenty of alternating workouts—but her favourite of all of them is boxing, similar to other VS girls like Candice Swanepoel.

In an interview with SELF, Gigi’s trainer Rob Piela said: “Gigi loves boxing, so we use it in a lot of her workouts.”

“If boxing isn’t your thing, [you] can swap it out for another cardio activity. I’ve always liked jump rope—it’s great for legs—or running [if you prefer].”

“You just want to keep your heart rate up the entire time.”

Piela shared one of Gigi’s workouts with SELF, involving “three minutes of [non-stop] boxing, and then one minute of doing a lot of different leg-focused strength-training moves”.

Alongside boxing, Hadid focuses on strength and muscle training, including building her core muscles.

Piela told SELF that he even remotely coaches Gigi for motivation when she’s on the road, saying: “She’s a great friend of mine. We FaceTime when she’s on the road. The motivation and support, no matter where she may be, is critical.”
