He doesn’t want to ruin the friendship
Yeah, we heard the news. He doesn’t want to ruin your already awesome friendship by striking up a relationship. Instead of feeling like crap right now (please don’t, because you’re amazing - you know that, right?), it’s important to take note of the reason why he doesn’t want to take your friendship further. Carolin admits that while rejection is super hard to take knowing that he really respects your friendship is a sign of a nice guy. “If he says he just wants to be friends, that’s probably true,” Carolin says. And while it may make for some of the most awkward moments you’ll ever experience, “there is a high chance he’s afraid of hurting you and leading you on if things were to go further,” Carolin adds. See? Nice guy.
So now what?
The best thing you can do is stay away from this crush crusher for a while. It will be hard but it will be even harder hanging around someone who you really, really, REALLY like times 1000. According to Carolin, the truth is you need time to see things clearly. “It can hurt to hang in there and be friends if you know he is not responding,” Carolin says. “Down the track if you accept he is just a good friend, get back there and make sure you are playing by the same rules.” You never know what can happen in the future.
Reasons you need to quit the friendship and leave the friend zone for good:
- He starts ignoring you: If he’s going to pull the “let’s stay friends instead of dating” card he needs to stay true to his word. If he suddenly ditches you, he’s not the guy you probably thought he was.
- You are still feeling awkward around him, even after you’ve had your distance: Without even noticing Mr. Friend Zone is making it hard for you to feel comfortable around him and there really isn’t anything more you can do about it *sad face*. You want to be happy and confident so it’s best to let this friendship go so you can continue on being amazing!
- He starts flaunting his new girlfriend in front of you: This is never, ever cool. If he’s a true friend he needs to have respect for you and your feelings.
- He has told the entire school you like him: What a douche! ‘Nuff said.
