The X-Men franchise isn't known for its hardcore grit, which is why when 20th Century Fox released its second trailer for horror-themed The New Mutants, fans were seriously excited.

The new Marvel movie - directed by Josh Boone - follows a bunch of teens in a hospital for mutants, that may not be housing the kids for the best intentions.

To say that the new X-Men flick abandons any and all comic-book fluff is putting it lightly, because while the likes of Logan and X-Men Origins had its moments, it doesn't come anywhere close to the dark world of The New Mutants.

The New Mutants has had to face relentless bad press over the years, with rumours swirling that Disney was going to can it altogether. After a while, fans became convinced that The New Mutants was never going to see the light of day.

So to say that Twitter was pleasantly surprised with how good the new trailer looks would be an understatement.
