In the season 18 premiere, Kourtney had an infamous fight with sister and potential First Lady of the United States, Kim Kardashian West, who confronted her about allegedly putting in the effort or time towards the show.
Then, when a fan tweeted at her about it after the episode aired, suggesting she quit if she really doesn’t like it anymore, the mother of three and Poosh creator admitted, “I did.”
And now, in a Vogue Arabia cover story for their July/August issue, the eldest Kardashian sister revealed why. As she put it, she left the show in the middle of its eighteenth season because she needed her privacy, and felt like “it became a toxic environment.”
“I have been filming the show non-stop for 14 years,” she told the outlet. “I was feeling unfulfilled and it became a toxic environment for me to continue to have it occupy as much of my life as it was.”
“Privacy is something I have come to value and finding that balance of private moments with being on a reality show is hard. People have this misconception that I don’t want to work, which isn’t true. I am following my happiness and putting my energy into that which makes me happy.”
Instead of focusing on the hit reality TV show, Kourtney wants to “trust her instincts” and focus on her career and family, specifically, her lifestyle website Poosh and children—Mason, 10, Penelope, 7 and Reign, 5.
In an episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Kardashian West explained her side of the story: "I feel like it's been a lot of built-up resentment from Kourtney, or just feeling like she doesn't want to film anymore.”
“And so she's not the type of person to make a decision and say, 'Okay guys, I'm not going to film.' But she would come to work with an attitude every day and kind of take it out on everyone from the crew to us and wouldn't really make that decision.”
