Britney's post garnered a lot of support from many famous faces including Paris Hilton, Snooki and Selma Blair. It even prompted a clip from the performance in question, featuring Jamie, to resurface on Twitter and TikTok and, needless to say, fans were looking at it through a different lens.
In the footage, as Jamie took the stage to perform the remix, Britney smiled and clapped from the audience, but fans claimed that her face told a different story.
"You can see the hurt in Britney's face when she thinks the cameras aren't on her," wrote one TikTok user.
"She doesn't look pleased at all," another added.
"Yeah so forced, she hugged the others for real! Her sister just made me sick, like get your own look," added a third.
However, things weren't always rocky between the two sisters. In fact, they used to publicly support one another quite a bit.
When she was just 10 years old, Jamie was quick to share Britney's spotlight, appearing as the younger version of her character Lucy in the 2002 film Crossroads.
At the time, Britney was vocal in her support of her little sister, confessing to Real Access she was "overprotective" of her and even suggesting she would "be a lot better in this business" than she was.
But Jamie always saw her older sister as the true star, telling The Hollywood Reporter in 2020 that "having Britney as an example was crucial" to her.
"Not only did my sister build me up, but she made me feel like I was the star when she was clearly the star. Britney was always really open and honest with me about the good and the bad that comes with this industry. And that’s what gave me the confidence to say no sometimes," the Zoey 101 star said.
But things got messy earlier this year when the #FreeBritney movement gained true momentum.
If you're unaware of the #FreeBritney movement, basically, Britney is currently battling for her autonomy after being trapped in a conservatorship since 2008.
The conservatorship means that Britney's estate, financial assets, as well as aspects of her personal life are under the control of her father, Jamie Spears, and the Bessemer Trust.
The internet has rallied behind Britney in her fight for freedom, calling out the Spears family for their treatment of the pop singer. This includes American talk show host Wendy Williams who elicited more than a few gasps when she said the phrase "death to all of them" when discussing Mr and Mrs Spears on her talk show. And yes, that is the sound that is currently consuming your TikTok for you page.
After social media users slammed Jamie Lynn for being silent throughout the whole ordeal, the actress finally spoke out during an emotional Instagram video.

”I think it’s extremely clear that since the day I was born I’ve only loved and adored and supported my sister," Jamie said. "I don’t care if she wants to run away to the rainforest and have a zillion babies in the middle of nowhere, or if she wants to come back and dominate the world the way she has so many times before. I have nothing to gain or lose either way. This situation does not affect me because I am only her sister who is only concerned about her happiness.”
The Zoey 101 star continued: “Maybe I didn’t support her the way the public would like me to with a hashtag on a public platform, but I can assure you I’ve supported my sister long before there was a hashtag. And I’ll support her long after. Note that.”
After addressing court for the first time in June, it was finally ruled that Britney is allowed to hire her own lawyer. She chose former federal prosecutor Mathew Rosengart.
Lawyers from both sides are expected to meet next week ahead of the hearing scheduled for September 29th.
