The daily demands of life can take their toll on the best of us. For Sydney model and endota spa ambassador Jess Purchase, her jam-packed schedule of social commitments, work, and travel leaves little room for leisure. To create balance, she makes self-care a priority.
“We’ve become so accustomed to being ‘go go go’ all the time, that we forget how good it feels to prioritise ourselves and look inwards,” Jess says. “A healthy and happy mind and body means you can be so much more productive in all other aspects of your life… There’s nothing selfish about making time for yourself a priority.”
For those of us looking for a little guidance, the model shares her advice on starting your own wellness routine, to recharge and reconnect with yourself.
“Start with one thing at a time. It’s so easy in the age of social media to feel like you need to commit to a million self-care activities, but really, investing in one or two things at a time that make you feel good will help you stick to them,” she says. “Once you have them under your belt, you can try for a couple more.”
Here Jess reveals the nourishing yet simple ways she puts self-care first.
1. Soaking up the sun
“The sun’s rays never fail to boost my mood, so when I’m feeling stressed, I always endeavour to go for a walk or an ocean swim to soak up some Vitamin D – of course always while wearing SPF50+.
I always notice a day where I’ve been too busy to go outside. Without fail, these days turn out to be less productive, often resulting in a lack of concentration and focus. While it takes time out of my day to dedicate to self-care practices, they allow me to show up as the best version of myself in my everyday life.”
