Party SOS

Beat the party buzzkills!

We’ve all been there. You’ve planned your party look for days and got your prep timed right down to the minute you skip out the door, then as soon as you hit the party something goes horribly wrong. Your hair freaks out. Or you discover a spot that’s popped up like a third eye. Don’t panic and do a smokebomb disappearing act, keep calm and follow these tried and true tips…

Your hair’s gone rogue

Girl, some days you just can’t fight humidity no matter how much product you throw at the problem. If your hair’s long, pull it into a ponytail, twist the whole length, wrap it around into a snail formation and secure with an elastic for a chic, tidy bun that’ll stay put and off your mind. For shoulder length hair or bob styles, beat the mushroom-puff vibe by quickly braiding the front sections of hair on both sides from your part down, then pull to the back of your head and fasten for a pretty party look that’ll stay off your face. Sorted.

Oh hello, ginormous zit

We know. They come out of nowhere sometimes with no warning and show up exactly where you don’t want them to. First: DO NOT SQUEEZE! The result will be red, angry and weepy (and we’re not just talking about the pimple). Second: Pop an ice cube on it. The cold will reduce the blood flow to the area and help take the heat out of it. Third: Gently dab on a spot treatment with tea tree oil to dry it out, pronto. We like the Thursday Plantation Blemish Stick because it’s purse size and contains Manuka honey to aid healing. Then gently dab some concealer on it and get back to the party.

Your shoes are killers

Your strappy sandals look amazing, yes, but they’re repeat offenders when it comes to rubbing. If you catch it in time you can actually avoid a blister forming. When you’re out on the DF throwing shapes and feel the burning sensation of a rub just starting, pop a slick of lip balm or gloss on the spot. It works by creating a slick barrier over your skin and stops the surface of your shoe rubbing. It only works if you catch it in time though, so if your blister’s too far gone, kick your shoes off and dance like no-one’s watching anyway.
