When it’s applied correctly skin will look glowing, fresh and flawless.

Get it wrong, however, and you’ll wish you hadn’t applied it at all. So how to get it right?

Well, the good news is it’s easier than you might think.

Head to the pharmacy, supermarket or beauty store where you buy your makeup and head to the foundation section.

Choose your foundation and select the shade you think would suit you.

Apply a stripe from the cheekbone to the chin. How does it look?

“The foundation shade that matches here will work better for the whole face,” says Bobbi, author of Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual (Springboard).

Next either head outdoors or stand by a window so you can check your match in natural light.

And don’t even bother testing it on your arm or hand. They’re always darker than your face.

One last thing to bear in mind – if your skin gets darker during summer you will need to have a second foundation that’s slightly darker.

Other than that – you’re now a foundation professional. Go you!
